VIV ASIA 2011 Bitec Bangkok, Thailand

Changing how we eat and changing the world:
The story of East Asian Agribusiness

All key players around the world, showed the industry’s commitment to Asia. A terrible increase of 30% growth of the exhibitions magnified over 680 exhibitors from all parts of the world. This showed the global premier league of international trade shows. Primarily the event was composed of four major events namely Feedtech-Croptech Asia 2011 from the feedmilling business focused on technology of feed, food and fuel; LAB@VIV ASIA 2011 focused on maximizing food safety and usage of test results to generate trend analysis in modern food production that gave strength on the importance of research in a modernized customized environment; AQUATIC ASIA 2011- the First Asia Pacific Region for Aquaculture Business which gave a new platform both from aquaculture organizations and marine culture business on innovations from different species from the aquatic animals. But more importantly, the event was magnified by the presentation made for CHINA VISIONS focused on networking opportunities from buyers, suppliers, opinion leaders and government officials active in Chinese “feed-to-meat” sector. This was in collaboration on how to position investments in high quality knowledge, products and services in meeting market demands with the most competitive prices coming from China origin.

The issues on feed – food safety really paved the trend in changing market demand. With the increasing China’s requirements in almost all raw materials, the issue on food safety sent out the trade. The issues identified were not only on grain prices but specifically on feed supplies itself. The World Bank anticipated 85% increased growth rate in meat demand by the year of 2030, world cereal production needed to increase at least 50%. On contrary, the production on crops went down for the last seven years. Thus, farm efficiency for output production was indeed required. The North and South America did not guarantee the supply over the grains and oil seeds requirement with the increasing per meat consumption for the whole South East Asia Pacific Region.

As a result, all regions were challenged with the same scenario given to all countries. But fortunately, Thailand was the first to highly innovate its feed production from the feedmill operations up to the table meat for all Thailanders. They went out with a bold belief on high standards for export of meat for European region with antibiotics banned in the whole operations. And now, Thailand established its own brand as the first in Asian Region to open their export business in European market. Thailand leveraged its reputation coming from a safe high quality meat with a value added Thai brand. It was indeed a Thai innovation for feed, food and fuel production.

We, as Filipinos are we now ready for the changing times of globalization for a safer meat from our feed production?
